The first book of outreach for babies: Particle Physics for Babies by Louie Corpe
We present a real particle physics book written for an especially young audience: Particle Physics for Babies by Louie Corpe. Thanks to this book, babies can have science as part of their universe from day zero.
After becoming a father, Louie Corpe, an experimental particle physicist who works at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, had the desire to share his greatest passion with his daughter: particle physics. Combining concepts from to newborn development (basic figures and bright colors which help develop eyesight and focus) and the many striking visuals of High Energy Physics, Louie has created this beautiful picture book for babies.
The book contains colorful physics-themed images that attract the attention of children who, obviously, are the main audience of this book.
But its charm doesn't finish here.
Together with the book there are free downloadable captions that allow parents/adults to learn about the LHC while reading them! You don't need to be a particle physics expert to read and understand these texts.
“Our next big science projects will take decades to design and build.
The babies and toddlers of today will one day be the brilliant scientists and engineers who operate these exciting facilities
We need already to be talking to them!”
As an International Particle Physics Outreach Group we are glad to have supported and produced, together with ATLAS Experiment, this milestone of knowledge for the youngest audience ever.
With this collaboration the author, Louie Corpe, ATLAS Experiment and us, we wanted to ensure that non-physicists people can describe the book to their babies with confidence.
So we can really say that this book is an outreach jewel!
The book is available at the CERN gift store, at the ATLAS secretariat and on Louie’s blog: louiecorpe.com.
